It's important to be prepared for an emergency and know how to respond. That's why CPR training is so important. Here's what you need to know.

What is CPR?

CPR, or cardiopulmonary resuscitation, is a life-saving technique that is used to revive someone who has suffered a heart attack or sudden cardiac arrest. When performed properly, CPR can be successful in restoring a person's normal heart rhythm and breathing.

How does CPR work?

CPR works by manually pumping oxygenated blood to the brain and heart. When someone goes into cardiac arrest, their heart stops beating and they stop breathing. This means that they are not getting the oxygen that they need to survive. CPR helps to circulate this oxygenated blood to keep the person alive until more definitive medical help arrives.

This is done via A-B-C.

  • A- Airway. The first thing you need to do is make sure that the person's airway is clear. This means checking for any obstructions and making sure that the person can breathe properly.
  • B- Breathing. Once the airway is clear, you need to start the rescue breathing process. This involves giving the person two breaths. The first breath should be given over one second, and the second breath should be given over two seconds.
  • C- Circulation. The next step is to start chest compressions. This involves pushing down on the person's chest at a rate of 100-120 compressions per minute. It is important to make sure that the compressions are deep and that you are not pressing on the ribs.

What is CPR training?

CPR training is a course that teaches you how to perform CPR properly. The course will cover the A-B-C method of CPR, as well as how to use an automated external defibrillator (AED). Most courses will also include a hands-on component so that you can practice your skills on a training mannequin. Additionally, many CPR training courses also teach you how to perform CPR on an infant, which is a slightly modified process.

Who needs CPR training?

Anyone who wants to learn how to perform CPR properly. This includes both medical professionals and laypeople. It is recommended that everyone have at least a basic understanding of CPR so that they can be prepared in the event of an emergency.
