What To Expect From Flight School

Education & Development Blog

If there is one superpower that almost everyone wants, it is the ability to fly. Lucky for you, the ability to fly is at your fingertips, and your superhuman dreams can come true. Ok maybe not superhuman, but the ability to fly truly is just a flight school away. This article is going to outline a few of the things that you should expect from a flight school. There are many different flight schools around the nation and each of them may run a little differently, but here are a few common denominators in flight school.

Class Time

Although flying may be one of the most fascinating things to accomplish, it is going to take a little bit to become familiar with different aircrafts. You will first sit down in a classroom and begin to understand the basics of flight. You will be taught the science behind flight, and also about the different parts of aircraft. Class time also includes hands on learning, which means you will be able to handle many of the parts and be taught how to do a pre-flight inspection. Be ready to become familiar on a scholarly level about flying. Also, in order to gain a pilot license, you will need to pass the FAA Knowledge Examination, so class time will help prepare you for this test.

Instructor Flight Training

When it is time to hit the air, you will first be accompanied by a professional pilot. This is to ensure that you understand the basics of the aircraft and proper procedure. You will first ride along and watch carefully. They will teach you proper takeoff, spin recognition and recovery, emergency landing, and proper landing procedures among many other techniques. This is your chance to really ask questions and glean as much information as possible from a person who has been there and done that.

Solo Flight Training

Solo flight training consists of two different parts. There are solo flights where you are supervised and where there are wind and weather restrictions, and there are solo flights that are more free, but still supervised. During your supervised flights, you will have the opportunity to start to master the basics of flight. During the latter part of your solo training you will be able to demonstrate the ability to fly in adverse weather and being completely reliant on your instruments. Flight school can allow you to fly some of the most amazing aircraft in the world.
